with Jennifer Hennig
Mon, Wed, Fri, Nov. 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, Dec. 9, 11, 2015
10 am - 1 pm
A fast-paced large ceramic sculpture class, we will learn strength with less material, and how to be resourceful while being easier on the body. Intermediate clay experience is essential, beginners not advised.
Each student will work on one piece during the course of the class. Methods of slab and/or coil-built tall sculpture will be taught, blending layers that add to the strength without adding weight/mass.
A fairly large piece (32”x11”x14”) can be made with as little as one bag (25 lb) of clay, keeping it light for easier mobility. We will also glaze via spraying as our application method, which is much easier for larger pieces. There is one week off for drying time and firing.

Ever had the chance to get centered? This is a class for older kids who want the chance to learn how to throw on the potter's wheel,    or need more practice with assistance. Come find the zen of being in the zone with the wheel! This is a very process oriented class in which instruction and practice are employed rigorously. Centering on the potter's wheel is instructed, and various forms may be constructed as skill will allow, as well as glazing application. We analyze the role and development of the visual arts in past and present cultures throughout the world, noting human diversity as it relates to the visual arts and artists.
