Learn the basics of creating an expressive mosaic out of found objects. In this class, you will complete a direct method mosaic project of your choice from start to finish.We will experiment with various materials including ceramic and broken dishes, ceramic figurines and other 3-D items, glass scraps, stones and shells, and other found objects that can be incorporated into your design. Topics covered include layout, cutting and nipping techniques, adhesives, grouts and grout colorants.

This class is for students who want to learn how to work with clay without the potter's wheel. Whether you are interested in sculpting the human figure, constructing functional vessels or creating abstract form, this class will equip you with the knowledge and skills to complete your goals. The possibilities of hand building are truly endless! Students will learn several ceramic construction techniques including coil and slab building, glazing and finishing techniques, as well as general studio practices. This class is a good introduction to the ceramic medium, so no clay experience necessary.

Learn from a certified welder, blacksmith and metal sculptor various metal working techniques. Learn how to correctly weld in various methods including Arc and MIG. If you have some skills on the wheel and are looking to explore more complex forms and techniques, this is the class for you. From teapots to closed forms, from bottles to large vessels, this class will give you the confidence and techniques to make anything on the wheel. Whatever you want to construct, you will learn the way in this class. Also discussed will be advanced finishing techniques and some critical visual thinking. Intermediate clay knowledge required (centering, throwing the cylinder, basic glaze application, etc.)

Come play with clay and learn to through on the potters wheel. Each student will be guided to advance at their own pace. Beginners will learn to wedge their clay and center it, make bowls and cups with handles, and glaze their finished pots so they can enjoy using them. Advanced students will be making pitchers and teapots. Emphasis will be on surface decoration by using underglazes and paper stencils or by adding texture to the surface of their pots with found objects and or with plaster stamps.

Hand Built Christmas Ornaments (ages 8 & Up- Kids and Adults Welcome), Nov. 13

Students will create one-of-a-kind, handmade ornaments using clay and a variety of techniques. If you would like to further personalize your ornament, you may bring in a photo (on CD or an actual photograph) that will be used to create a sepia toned decal that will be permanently fired onto an ornament. What a wonderful way to create great family keepsakes or gifts! Work will be finished at Mighty Mud and be available for pick up 2 weeks later.
