Arts in the Air Professional Art Exhibit and Sale
Each year, the Rockefeller Institute hosts Arts in the Air, a professional art show designed to celebrate the creativity and originality of Arkansas artists. This year, we have expanded our Arts in the Air offerings and have scheduled an additional exhibit and sale in conjunction with Bountiful Arkansas. The theme for this exhibit is “Garden and Agricultural Art.” At the opening reception, mix and mingle with talented Arkansas artists while viewing their exhibited works. All art is available for purchase and will be on display until August 13

Introduction to Beekeeping with Jon Zawislak - July 16
In this workshop, Jon will teach the basics of beekeeping in Arkansas, including basic honeybee biology and behaviors, the beehive and its components, beekeeping tools and protective clothing, and what to expect during a year with honeybees. Participants also will have the option of visiting a bee yard to inspect a working hive (weather permitting). Limited to 25 participants.

Green Gardening with Robert Lashley - July 16
Are you tired of cluttering your garden shed with plastic trays and pots? Robert will demonstrate soil-blocking methods as an alternative to using plastic pots and trays for starting plants. He will also show how common household items, such as old light bulbs, can be used for plant starts. Limited to 20 participants.

Beeswax to Candles – A Cleaner, Greener Candle! with Robert Lashley - July 16
Beeswax is from a renewable resource, it cleans and purifies the air, and it is longer-lasting. Robert will teach the basics of working with beeswax, including how to make candles with different kinds of molds and essential oils. Limited to 20 participants.

In this hands-on workshop, children (ages 10 and up) will prepare meals fresh from the garden. They will visit the Rockefeller Institute’s gardens where they will learn how to recognize different foods and will then prepare a healthy meal using fresh ingredients. Limited to 15 students.

Dr. Garcia offers an intriguing perspective on five of the seven spices of the Holy Land, which are vines, figs, pomegranates, olive oil, and honey. The Bible, Torah, and Koran are referenced to demonstrate the ways in which these fruits are part of  our cultural folklore. Limited to 25 participants.
